Violence broke out in West Bengal’s Maheshtala area, leading to fierce clashes between two communities on Wednesday. The situation escalated rapidly as mobs pelted stones at police, several officers were seriously injured, and at least one police vehicle was set ablaze. Tensions, already high after incidents in Murshidabad and Kolkata, boiled over again as Maheshtala turned into a flashpoint. Police appeared overwhelmed despite heavy deployment, with the Joint Commissioner (Crime) rushing to the spot to manage the situation. The violence continued for several hours, raising concerns of further flare-ups in the region.
